Does applying for a auto loan affect my credit?

I recently just got a pre owned car in September and like most people I got the car financed. When I filled out the application for financing and gave it to the dealer. They went and applied to 2-4 banks to see if I could get accepted and I got accepted for chase auto loan financing. However a couple of weeks went by and got letters from 2-4 banks saying my auto loan application was denied. Now what I want to know is that since the stupid dealership applied to more then one bank for auto fiancing, did they screw up my credit? Also since I got denied for auto loans by 2-3 banks does it have any effect on my credit score? Will I have a lot of hard inquiries because of it?

I got a call from the person who appraised the value of my car and was told that my car was worth $2,200.00 and another $300.00 for what it would have cost me for a rental, totaling $2561. and some change.
